personality
Optimist at heart despite all that she's been through. Generally tries to believe in humanity, but has been proven wrong several times and is prone to questioning her beliefs. She tends to trust first, ask questions later, which makes it easy for her to feel betrayed by other people. Still, she hates feeling alone, so she continues to put her faith in other people, even if it's been for nothing several times.
Also has a tendency to be way too willing to give up her well-being for the sake of her loved ones. Being in an apocalyptic setting, as well has having to kill people she loved, kind of made her way too afraid to lose people. So much so that she'd rather see herself go first. She suppresses a LOT under that bright smile of hers, and that's her way of moving forward β denial, believing that everything will be fine, despite fears that the contrary is more likely to become true.

background
CWs: apocalyptic themes, experimentation, body issues, parental neglect
Kara was born to a successful artist and a doctor, and also had an older brother name Luca. Her family life was, simply put, pretty strange. Her dad, the doctor, was distant and her mother, the artist, was strict, expected good grades and good marks from her and her brother all around. She spent most of her time studying, trying her best to behave, and ended up being pretty well-liked throughout her schooling. She certainly became a "popular kid", especially in high school, and developed a bit of an entitlement problem due to pretty much getting everything she ever wanted outside of her home. Her extra curricular activities were normally of the athletic variety.
School was Kara's safe space, as were her friends, including her best friend, Eve, a boy she'd known since middle school. Kara's motivation for continuing to try hard was not her mother's discipline, but rather to maintain her 'perfect' image so she wouldn't feel so lonely. Her home life left a void in her that she thought would've been hard to fill otherwise. She and her brother got along just fine, but her brother was more aloof and she never felt like she truly got to understand him as a person. The one thing they bonded over was fashion, as they both loved dressing nicely; Kara even had a small stack of fashion magazines that she kept at home that her brother would sometimes go through on his own time.
Since Kara's mother held Kara's brother to the same standard, he left home as soon as he got out of high school, two years before Kara did the same. She and her brother didn't talk much ever since he left, and she barely kept in touch with the rest of her family. They were a non-entity in her life after high school.
College student days were a bit different β Kara aspired to become a fashion model due to her love of clothing, but got rejected a few times. It messed with her self-esteem greatly. She started to question her self-worth, as rejection was something that wasn't so easily handed to her. Eventually, she gave up on that dream, and decided that when it came to her downtime, she should just go with what she already knew she was good at: Baseball. She went to college on a sports scholarship, after all, and played it over the course of Year 1 while majoring in liberal arts. All the while, she and Eve grew closer, and she developed quiet romantic feelings for him that she held back on voicing due to her newfound fear of rejection.
The Undead Apocalypse happened in the middle of the day during the middle of Year 2 of college, and it happened fast. The virus spread like wildfire throughout the university β origins unknown β and took Eve's humanity away. Before she could ever admit her feelings to him, Kara killed him as an Undead after he took the life of one of their mutual friends. It was incredibly devastating, but she knew she had to move forward in order to survive. She fled the university and found other students from it; they teamed up and formed a squad and roamed around together for a while. Kara's weapon of choice was a baseball bat.
A few months passed, and Kara assumed the role of the group's protector and scavenger due to her athletic prowess. She managed to do her job well, and they had only lost one of their six-man team, which she considers relatively surprising, given their circumstances. They were unable to find an established community of people with a consistent form of shelter and resources, so they ended up traveling quite a bit, finding supplies and food wherever and however they could manage it. A lot of their time was spent at public parks for the plumbing, and they would move if Undead started to show up.
One day, Kara was mysteriously scouted by a scientist who claimed to have been researching the Undead and needed assistance with their studies in exchange for resources. Kara was one of a few that were recruited for the cause, and went through a series of injections that gave her temporary immunity to Undead attacks. She willingly agreed to receive these, thinking that it would better her chances of protecting her friends (without their knowledge). However, she suffered from side effects for a few days, and had to take an antidote to keep them under control.
Her weapon of choice β a baseball bat, naturally β was also upgraded by the laboratory. It became a weapon that she could summon, and one that started to burn a bright blue flame that would help her fight off anyone that threatened her, including humans.
